Shine Bright Like a Diamond: Five Skincare Tips for a Glowing, Clear Complexion

Starting a skincare routine can be scary, especially if you don’t know your skin. It feels like the best skin products are expensive and don’t always work.

I used to think skincare was too hard and that I had to buy such expensive products in order to achieve the skin that I wanted. I went through a phase where my face was the worst it has ever been; I was breaking out a lot, my skin was flaky, and I was very red. It made me want to hide behind makeup even more, which only made things worse.

However, once I found out my skin type and did a little bit more research, my skin is the best it’s ever been.

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing:

  • Why we need to invest time into our skincare routines

  • Skincare tips for morning and night

  • Affordable skincare products

If you need prominent skincare tips and skincare secrets, and want to take better care of your skin, you’re in the right place.

Why we need to invest time into our skincare routines

This seems like a no-brainer, but everyone loves clear skin. I think it’s universal that everyone wants clear skin. It helps with our overall mood and confidence. So why not invest time into making it possible. It doesn’t necessarily mean investing a lot of money, either.

Our skin is affected by our environments all the time; some things that affect it the most are the sun and stress. We need to protect our faces from all the ugly sh!t that can get near.  Here are my 5 tips that have helped me with clear skin:

1. Establish a routine  - for both morning and night!

It’s so important to have a skincare routine. The most basic routine, for morning and night, consists of: cleanser, tone, serum, moisturizer, SPF (morning), creams (night). Every week, it’s also important to use a gentle exfoliator and a treatment mask. Please understand that morning and night are slightly different! We have different needs in the morning and nighttime.

Establishing a routine, a routine that works for your skin type, will help with consistency and ensuring that the products you are using are actually working. It definitely takes time to see the desired results, but it’s so important that routines are established so that your skin is getting all the ingredients that it needs.

Everyone’s skin is different, so I can’t necessarily tell you all of my tips because my skin is on the oily side. Understanding your skin type for establishing the best tips is what is best. This will make finding the right products that much easier for you. This will determine what ingredients are needed for your specific skin type. 2. SPF in the morning!!!!

I cannot emphasize just how important SPF is in your skincare routine. Please, implement that NOW if you’re not already. And not just on your face, please bring it down your neck, or else what’s the point? And it’s not just for sunny days, it should be EVERY DAY.  It’s such an important preventative health care habit; it protects from UV rays, it prevents premature aging of your skin, it promotes even skin tone, and lowers skin cancer risk. So please, please, don’t forget your SPF in the morning! Here’s a list of SPF products that I’d recommend (from least to most expensive):

  • Cerave - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($15)

  • La Roche-Posay - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30 ($19.99)

  • La Roche-Posay - Anthelios Mineral Tinted Ultra Light Face Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 ($34.99)

  • Supergoop - Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 ($36)

  • Murad - Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($68)

3. DOUBLE CLEANSE at night

Please ditch the makeup remover and use an oil-based cleanser, or even micellar water. But, please, double cleanse at night! Start with an oil-based cleanser to deep clean, then go in with your water-based cleanser. Why? To really clean out your face. This is a game changer. Not only did double cleansing clear my skin, but it really reduced texture. It’s an extra step to your night routine, but it’s so worth it.

4. Facial towels!

As of recently, there is a lot of talk of biodegradable, disposable face towels. These are helpful so that you know that you’re using clean products on your face.

When it comes to regular towels, you should always use a clean one! If you re-use towels, you’re risking bacteria build up and can make your skincare, ultimately, not worth it.

If you do want to reduce waste, microfiber cloths are also the way to go! Just please remember to always use clean ones on your face.

Here are some facial towel recommendations:

And most importantly, pat dry! Don’t rub!

5. Drink water!!

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of drinking water. Drinking enough water actually helps clear your skin, as it balances the water and oil content of your face. When this happens, it reduces your chances of clogged pores. Drinking water helps to promote an even skin tone and keeps your skin hydrated.

Not only is staying hydrated good for your skin, it’s beneficial for your overall health. So, please, don’t forget to drink your water!

If you want clear skin, invest in your skincare routine. That cannot be emphasized enough- you could have good products, but if they aren’t being implemented correctly, then it might not work correctly. Understand that there is a correct order to apply your products. This is a journey, and I’m here for you along the way! Try not to overdo it in the beginning, and just understand what your skin needs!
