Beauty Goes Beyond Skin Deep: 10 Black-Owned Beauty Brands to Support

It’s February, so HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH! Though we shop and support black-owned businesses year-round, let’s give even extra love this month <3 If you’re not already supporting or shopping these brands, wyd?

With that said, I’m going to be sharing  Black-owned beauty brands, some small businesses and others large. Let’s continue to educate ourselves on Black herstory, and allow the learning to continue.

1. Pat McGrath Labs

Pat McGrath is that girl. Quite possibly the most influential makeup artist, especially within the fashion and beauty world. She literally conceptualizes and creates so many of the looks for ready-to-wear and couture shows for the most luxury brands and designers. She has ground-breaking products for a reason - she is AMAZING at her craft and everyone should have Pat McGrath Labs in their top shelf. My fav you ask? Hands down, her lipsticks

2. Fenty Beauty

Rihanna really did it here. She has a lot of internet breaking products for a reason. She really blew up, I mean, she’s Rihanna, but also, I think she really opened up a lot of other beauty brands’ eyes to what it means to have a shade range. She really did it with her gloss bombs, and honestly everything else. But, girl, her gloss bombs, AMAZING.

3. Juvia’s Place

Chichi Eburu really did her thing with Juvia’s Place. She really wanted to make sure that makeup was truly inclusive and with her collection, she made it known. She has affordable and stunning makeup collections, it’s hard to choose just which one is my favorite. If I had to, I’d say blush, foundation, and lashes are an absolute must from Juvia’s Place. Everything’s so good, though, so try it all!!

4. Ami Cole

Ami Cole is committed to creating beauty products for the Black community, like most, if not all, other Black-owned beauty brands. The need and want for inclusivity is always top of mind. Ami Cole has skin-caring products - there is a reason why they have award-winning makeup, they’re just so f*cking good. Their ability to create community is admirable and all products are insanely good. What do you need to try? Easy, their skin-enhancing tint

5. Mielle Organics

Mielle Organics is committed to healthy ingredients for hair and skin. We all know about their hair strengthening oil, but have you tried their hair mask? Honestly, I love hair and skin care, and with Monique’s commitment to using healthy ingredients, all products are a hit. Not only are her products affordable, they exceed my expectations EVERY TIME.

6. KNC Beauty

Kristen Noel Crawley has not only the cutest packaging, but the best masks. From lips to eye masks, you will stay plump and hydrated. Her use of natural ingredients makes her products that more intriguing. These masks are perfect to prep the skin or to even just give yourself some rejuvenation.

7. Uoma Beauty

Uoma, meaning beautiful, is the heart of Uoma Beauty. They are committed to creating an inclusive community to amplify and empower all. They believe in self-expression, inclusivity, empowerment, and more. This beautiful, well-rounded brand is exactly what we all need. I’m a b!tch for lipstick, so obviously, I am pointing you towards their bada$$ icon matte lipstick!! But, try everything else, too!

9. Eadem

Eadem is committed to redefining beauty standards, and we are all for it. They are committed to keeping our skin’s needs and melanin in mind when crafting their skincare products. With clean ingredients, too, they are really committed to us and our skin’s needs.  Their dark spot serum is what they’re known for, go check them out!

9. Danessa Myricks Beauty

Y’all already know Danessa Myricks Beauty, and if you don’t, now you do. I am always impressed as f*ck with her products. I mean, their yummy skin blurring balm powder is award winning for a reason - it’s so f*cking good. It’s buildable, blurring, just everything you need to make your skin look even better.

10. Thirteen Lune

I wanted to add Thirteen Lune last as it’s a great way to discover other Black and Brown beauty businesses/brands. It’s a platform to amplify and bring together the Black and Brown community within the beauty world. With so many different brands to discover, this is a great starting point to discover Black and Brown owned beauty brands, from makeup to skincare to haircare, it’s truly beauty inclusion.

RECAPPPPP

I encourage you to continue to seek Black-owned beauty businesses/brands, large and small. They all deserve love year-round, and they always have ground-breaking products that are definitely worth your buck. Expand your search, seek out different brands, and continue to learn and educate yourselves <3 As always, I am here to help and encourage your learning and researching. Let us know what Black-owned beauty brands YOU love and what new Black-owned beauty brands you’ve tried.
